Message from the Director
There has been a lot happening at the Framingham Historical Society and Museum. Not just on the outside of the building with workers climbing all over the roofs – but inside, too. We're at a pivotal moment in our own organizational history, as we reinvent ourselves as The Framingham History Center!
This change was brought about to help attract more people like you who believe in the excitement and relevance of Framingham's history and are willing to support it. Our research concluded that our name, Framingham Historical Society and Museum, was too long and did not reflect the vibrancy and potential of this organization. We've come a long way from the 1888 designation of the "Framingham Historical and Natural History Society". And so, with a unanimous vote of our Board of Directors and this announcement to you, our members, we are changing our name to The Framingham History Center.
Throughout this name changing process, we learned that we are not your average historical society. We have so much to offer: three historic buildings on the town's iconic centre common (Academy Museum, Village Hall, Edgell Memorial Library); fascinating stories with supporting artifacts that connect Framingham to so much American history; and people -- volunteers/members who are dedicated to our mission. Don't worry – we won't abandon any of these precious constituencies in this change!
Soon you will see banners around town heralding Framingham's arts and culture organizations. The Framingham History Center banner will be flying proudly. After 120 years of serving the town and region, the organization is still evolving with the times. Stay with us and bring your friends aboard too!
Please call me at 508-626-9091 or email me with any comments you may have regarding this change. I look forward to seeing you all at our upcoming programs and our New Year's Eve bash!
With best wishes,
Anne Murphy Executive Director
