Description CENTRAL SQUARE, FROM EAST SIDE

The small shopping area of Framingham Centre was once known as Central Square, having stores on both sides of Route 9. The central feature of the 1880 view is the white business block known as the Esty Block, one of the few buildings that still stood in 1980. The brick building at far left is the Framingham National Bank. The sign over the pillared building at far right reads "Trowbridge & Savage."

This is the image of Framingham Centre village used to represent "Pottsville NY" by Arthur Train in his "Yankee Lawyer: The Autobiography of Ephraim Tutt."
