Description HIGH AND PRIMARY SCHOOLS

In 1880, the old Framingham Academy building was a primary school and one of Framingham's first public high schools was next to it (the other was in Saxonville). In 1908, a new high school was built downtown (occupied by the Danforth Museum in 1980). The old building (on the left in the print) was moved to Central Square and later known as the Gordon Building. A new elementary school called the Jonathan Maynard School built in its place. The old Framingham Academy, which had served as a public elementary school, was then turned over to the Framingham Historical Society in 1915.
